A short distance from Lukovo, in the middle of the Podyjí National Park is the ruins of Nový Hrádek.

Nový Hrádek near Lukova (Znojmo district) was built by the Moravian Margrave Jan Jindřich of Luxemburg shortly after 1358. In 1645, it was conquered and partially demolished by the Swedes.

In the nineteenth century, the Mniszk family from Vranov nad Dyjí, as the new owners, modified its front part for hunting and excursion stays. Before the Second World War, the castle served as a hostel for the Club of Czech Tourists, and in its vicinity was also the base of the Znojmo trampers, after the war the whole area was part of the forbidden so-called border zone. Today it is a ruin with a view.

Nevertheless, it is worth visiting for the view of the meandering Dyja, which you will see three times from one place. Then take a look at the map to get your bearings. Binoculars with you! You have to walk about 2 km from Lukovo.

Opposite on the Austrian side is the Umlaufberg viewpoint with a nice walking route around the Dyje. It starts from Merkersdorf.
