In Čížov, you will come across border barriers from the Iron Curtain era. On the southern Moravian border with Austria (Slavonice – Břeclav), between 1948 and 1989, they shot a total of 51 people trying to flee to the west, the last time in 1984.
There is also a visitor center of the Podyjí Nationl Park in Čížov. Down on the river Dyji there is a crossing for pedestrians and cyclists on the Austrian side to the romantic ruined town of Hardegg.
