An important castle standing before the confluence of the Želetavka and Dyje rivers. Probably the oldest castle in Moravian-Austrian Podyjí. A Slavic settlement has been located here since the 10th century. It was followed in the first third of the 11th century by the Czech Přemyslovs during the occupation of Moravia. The castle controlled a large part of southwestern Moravia and was a royal fortress protecting the southern border of the state.
